Have you ever wondered why places like New York, L.A, and Atlanta have such a strong music community? If you haven’t, that’s ok, because I have. Since beginning this blog, I have met many talented people from this area. They love the culture of the DMV, but more often than not they leave this area for a chance at stardom. For example, artists such as Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Logic, and Wale. All artists who have undeniably left an impact on the world of music. One begins to wonder why can’t an artist from here eat? One of the answers is a lack of infrastructure for these artists to eat, with a solid infrastructure anything is bound to fail.

So as a way to create infrastructure Fifteen Ave & Six 08 teamed together to host a 2-Day writing camp. The 2-Day writing camp was called the No Label writing camp. A 2-Day event that focused on networking, creating, and creating a cohesive environment where artists, producers, photographers, videographers, and bloggers all could come through.

Preparation for this event was not easy, speaking to WillieFifteen of Fifteenave tells me that planning for this event for this events has taken months of preparation. At the beginning of the process, they wanted to book an Air BnB but plans changed once they booked a studio. “It was Sarah, she planned and executed it, and we finalized the plans. “The point of this writers camp is to encourage and unite the DMV while building a platform.

After the preparation came to the setting up of the event. Creating the photo set, connecting the appliances, and setting up the studios. Each member of the team took their role in creating a place where people could network freely and comfortably. Once the event took off, there was no denying that DMV artist won’t work together. I had the pleasure of sitting in on a session of producers, songwriters, and singers. Each contributed to the songs, always asking if they could tweak certain parts or add more artist to the song.

The 2 Day event ended on a high note, as all of the organizers for the event came together to discuss what can be improved upon for the next camp. As they closed out in prayer it was evident that this will not be the last writing camp that the DMV will see.
