First time Modeling: Vintage Thrivals x What I learned

About a month ago I was contacted by Rich Rocket, a man who has been entertaining crowds for over ten years as a host for many events across the DMV. He is also the man behind Vintage Thrivals, his nostalgic clothesline that combines 80’s and 90’s fashion with contemporary messages.

I have close to no modeling experience unless you count standing the mirror trying to catch good lighting for a ubiquitous mirror selfie to post onto snapshot. Prior to this shoot, I was used for a focus for a photographer and the pictures came out great.

Still, when it comes to modeling I feel like I don’t fit the model mold. Someone with a jawline that could cut steel, a thin to an athletic frame, and effortlessly wears the clothing are what come to mind when I think of a model. I admire a couple of plus size male models from Asos, in particular, Raul Samuel.

I admired how these men could be comfortable with themselves despite their size.  Thanks to Rich, I learned that what these men had was a determined attitude and joyful spirit while taking the pictures. This experience on camera taught me to just be. Enjoy the moment as the shutter snaps and your images displays across the screen. Take the moment for all that it is worth and live in it. No matter what I think is a flaw doesn’t matter.  All that matters is that I live in the moment and be grateful for the opportunity.

Below are pictures from the shoot and Vintage Thrivals online store, I assure you that all the pieces are made with the utmost detail to attention and you won’t regret your purchase.
