Album Review X CATCH

Do you remember the anticipation that you felt on Sunday mornings? For me, Sunday mornings were a time of reunion. My parents would pile all six of us into a van and began the Sunday morning selection. Everything ranging from Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and CeCe Winans. These artists were the foundation for developing my musical ear. My anticipation would rise as we got closer to the church. I would grin eagerly thinking of the fun I would have with my cousins. Above all else, I couldn’t wait to be on the receiving end of a warm hug from my grandmothers. To this day, their hugs provide a safe place from all harm. That is how CATCH by Peter CottonTale makes me feel. CATCH is a safe place that reminds me of a time when my greatest want in life was to be held lovingly.

You can stream CATCH on all streaming platforms.

CATCH was released April 17th during the pandemic. It is a gospel album that effortlessly combines the sounds of old school gospel music with contemporary gospel music, while retaining a undeniable sense of creativity. The nostalgic sounds of a choir, the steady beating of the drum, along with a powerful delivery take me back to Sunday morning services. Although this is a gospel album, it is not exclusively for church people. CATCH is an uplifting album that will undoubtedly put a smile on your face. With tracks like Hi 5 and Feels Like Church, your mood will instantly change for the better.

CottonTale is no stranger to the music scence. In the past he has collaborated with SZA, J.Cole, Skrillex, Vic Mensa and Lil Wayne. He is also known for producing, playing the keys, and being a musical director.

With over 30 collaborators, you are sure to find a song that resonates with you. You’ll definitely recognize the soulful sounds of PJ Morton, the energetic voice of Kirk Franklin, and the playful voice of comedian Lil Rell. As well as Thirdstory, Fred Hammond, Grace Weber, Jamila Woods, and many more. Catch is a fifty minute album that feels like fifteen. Each time I reach the ending, I find myself wanting more.

Two of my favorite songs from CATCH.

The cover art for the album is a pair of feet hovering over water. I was taught that washing of the feet is a humbling act that shows true servitude to the word. The music on this album displays that humility. No one on this album is putting on heirs, you can feel the genuine love and passion from these songs. CATCH is now streaming on all platforms.
