Executive Producer John Moore Shares The Story Behind His Debut Mixtape

John Moore, more affectionately known as Fatsahn, is a self-described visionary. In three short years, he launched his platform, bringing awareness to DMV artists. In 2022, John and his friends launched SNAKX radio on station head, an app that allows you to broadcast a show and share it with your supporters.

Originally, the show was a bi-weekly event where John and his collegaues would debut an artist’s music, engage their audience with musical commentary, and listen to their opinions. Two of  John’s friends shared an unreleased song from an artist, Having a keen ear for music, John decided to release the song as a SNAKX radio exclusive. Three years later, he has curated a unique blend of artists for the debut of SNAKX Radio: The Mixtape V1.

After traveling to the Cayman Islands for his 30th birthday party and having an exclusive listening party, John is ready to debut SNAKX Radio: The Mixtape V1, a project that he has been executive producing for two years. John takes to the forefront as the executive producer for this project.

1. What inspired this new project, and how does it differ from your previous work?

Life inspired this project, from the very first song that you hear. That was the first single released from SNAKX radio in 2022. Since then I have locked in on this project. What you hear is a recap of these last two years. The most difficult part would be who you hear on a track and deciding who would nurture the track well.

2. Can you describe the creative process behind this project? What were the biggest challenges?

Many people don’t know that I am the Executive Producer of the album. I am responsible for the best selection, cover art, release dates, and all of the behind-the-scenes work. The most difficult part would be deciding who belonged on which track. I would spend hours listening to each song to decide which artists would nurture the track,

3. What themes or messages are you hoping to convey through this project?

I want the listener to identify that on their own. I don’t want to tell you what you got from it because it could be something completely different for everyone. People will have their favorite songs, I know that for sure. I will say on the surface level, that I want to send a message of unity.

4. Were there any specific artists, events, or personal experiences that influenced this work?

Specifically with the song Block. I would say that I was 75% done with the project. I had this one beat for Block and I was like *** I need you on this project. I knew that I had to have this beat on the project. This man told me, This man basically, in my own words, told me, “If you want another feature, you’re going to have to spit something.” We were both there in his home studio and we came up with the song.

5. How would you describe the theme of the mixtape?

A sonic journey through time itself.

6. How do you hope your audience will connect with this project?

I hope that it sends waves of healing throughout the world and opens people’s ideas to experimenting more and being themselves. There is a certain sound we don’t hear anymore and I think that’s tapped into a little bit in the mixtape.

7. What materials, techniques, or tools did you use, and why did you choose them?

Most of the tools I used were my voice, headphones, and GarageBand.

8. Is there a particular piece in this project that holds special meaning for you? Why?

Honestly, no, I can’t say one piece. The tape is made to be a full body of work. That in itself is what I would say the special thing is. I can’t listen to one song, I have to listen to the whole tape.

9. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned while working on this project?

I’ve learned that you can’t rush to an end goal. You have to take that time to appreciate the beauty and the ugly sometime. All the time. Life is bigger than what we choose to focus on sometimes.

10. What’s next for you after this project? Are there any upcoming collaborations or ideas in the works?

The deluxe mixtape is on the way and we are working on volume two. I will say that the direction that it’s going already is very different but you can see the growth. I am very excited to release the songs throughout the year.
